molt (mohlt) v., (of birds, insects, reptiles, etc.) To cast or shed the feathers, skin, or the like, that will be replaced by a new growth (except in the case of Norman, my chick pin; his feathers will not be replaced).
Since she loved her baby-chick pin that her best bridge biddy buddy, Patia, had bestowed upon her, she became quite perturbed when it began to molt.
