grappled (grap-uhl-d) v., (past participle, past tense of ‘grapple’) To seize another, or each other, in a firm grip, as in wrestling; clinch; to engage in a struggle or close encounter.

She grappled with the demon kitty, but was ultimately overcome by his brute strength and razor-sharp claws.
